PSD Curriculum Statement 2025

Intent

At Brookfield, we are committed to delivering a holistic Personal and Social Development (PSD) programme that recognises and supports the complex social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs of our learners. Our intent is to provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where every pupil feels safe, respected, and empowered to grow both personally and socially.

Our PSD curriculum encompasses key statutory elements, including:

  • Personal, Social, Citizenship and Health Education (PSCHE)
  • Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
  • Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)
  • Religious Education (RE)

These areas are taught through engaging and carefully planned lessons tailored to meet the developmental needs of our pupils. The curriculum is further enriched by whole-school assemblies, which promote core values such as resilience, empathy, equality, and positive mental health.

At Brookfield, personal development is not limited to the classroom. Our wider provision is comprehensive and includes:

  • On-site counselling, wellbeing support, and mental health tracking, ensuring timely and sensitive responses to individual needs.
  • Access to Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) to support communication and social interaction.
  • A proactive and empowered Pupil Council, giving students a voice and fostering self-worth and leadership.
  • Regular feedback through staff, parent/carer, and pupil surveys, enabling us to adapt and respond effectively to our school community.
  • Collaboration with external agencies such as FCWA and YMCA Mentoring, who provide additional specialist support, mentoring, and targeted interventions.
  • Weekly (PDSI) meetings, where identified needs are discussed and strategic actions are taken to provide wraparound support for pupils.

Brookfield’s PSD provision is designed to enable all pupils—regardless of background or challenge—to develop the confidence, skills, and values they need to engage positively in society and make informed choices for their futures. We recognise the barriers our students face, and we are resolute in breaking them down through care, connection, and meaningful opportunity.
